MIDDLE GRADES AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM
Designed to keep children in a safe, affordable environment while providing homework time and enrichment opportunities through clubs, intramural sports, music, classes and workshops. Counselors work with the children exposing them to information regarding teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol awareness, gang prevention in a tangible, age appropriate manner.

Dolphin After-School Enrichment Program is now a NC Licensed Child Care Program. This status allows us to continue efforts to provide a high quality, low-cost childcare to the community. All families who may qualify for assistance may contact Pender County Social Services for subsidy.

Mission Statement:  Provide an after-school enrichment program, which will keep our children safe, assist the working families in our community, and provide personal enrichment opportunities for all youth who apply by providing affordable fees or subsidized fees to include all who apply.
Middle Grade students require care and activities specific to their needs and ages (11-14).  These are impressionable grades where students feel they are too old to need “babysitting services”   and parents do not want their children home for multiple hours alone each day after-school. The goal is to create an enrichment program that fulfills the needs of students via homework, social, extracurricular activities.

Middle School Ages Facts: (From www.safeyouth.org)                                                                              Violent crime and safety issues increase between the hours of 3-6 pm. Students, who spend no time in extracurricular activities, such as those offered in after-school programs and existing middle school activities, are 49 percent more likely to have used drugs and 37 percent more likely to become teen parents than those students who spend one to four hours per week in extracurricular activities. Beyond serving a significant role by simply offering youth a safe haven, after-school programs offer children and youth opportunities to learn new skills such as conflict resolution, prepare for a successful career, improve grades and develop relationships with caring adults. These skills can be critical in helping youth develop in positive ways and to avoid behavior problems and conflict.
